The COVID pandemic almost certainly caused this massive disruption in income, and it’s great to see we are now back on track in many of these categories. Attendance was also up from 2020 numbers, and physician interactions were the biggest jump, with an almost 20% increase year over year. The 2021 learner interaction numbers were the highest ever recorded by the ACCME.

Global earns Commendation with ACPE

ACPE Commendation

By John McCormick - June 23, 2022

Global earns Commendation with ACPE
Global Education Group is pleased to announce that ACPE has determined that Global's accreditation of the Continuing Pharmacy Education Program is continued with Commendation. The decision extends Global's current accreditation terms for the Continuing Pharmary Education Program through January 31, 2028. Global is committed to delivering the highest quality education for pharmacy education, and the ACPE's decision allows us to continue offering pharmacy credit for CME/CE initiatives.

The ACPE's decision to award Commendation now means that Global has been awarded Commendation/Distinction with three Accreditation Boards: The ACCME ( Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education), the ANCC ( The American Nurses Credentialing Center), and ACPE ( Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education). Global is proud to be among the distinguished group of providers that have earned the highest distinction with each Accreditation Board.

If you are interested in learning more about jointly providing CME/CE programs for physicians, nurses, or pharmacists, please contact Andrea Funk, VP Education or John McCormick, VP Education Strategy.

CME Value: COVID-19 Edition

2021 CME Value

By John McCormick - October 25, 2021

CME Value: COVID-19 Edition
For many years now, Global has surveyed physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals in a variety of clinical practice areas to gain insight into their perceived value of CME, how often they incorporate information from CME into practice, preferences related to education, barriers to practice, and other critical data points that advance our educational and funding objectives. In 2021 Global conducted a similar survey that included questions surrounding the COVID19 pandemic to understand what type of CME has been favorable during the pandemic, how HCPs feel about attending live, in-person meetings, and the vaccine status of this learner population.

2020 ACCME Annual Report

2020 ACCME Annual Report Analysis

By John McCormick - June 30, 2021

2020 ACCME Annual Report
2020 ACCME Annual Report and Analysis - Summary
The 2020 ACCME Annual Report data, released June 17, 2021, shows the following for CME activities respective to the 2019 report.
  • 37% increase in non-physician/other participants, 5% increase in physician interactions
  • 26% decrease in total CME income, including registration fees, monetary support, advertising/exhibits, donations, and grants. Advertising/exhibit income was down nearly 50% compared to 2019
  • 7% decrease in Commercial support income
The three-year trend data shows that since 2018 annual reporting, the number of physician participants at CME activities increased by 18% while the number of non-physician participants increased by 31%. This significant increase in non-physician attendees at CME activities is primarily due to more comprehensive data collection from jointly accredited providers, as described by the ACCME below that was first used in the 2018 ACCME Annual Report.

New in 2018: More Comprehensive Data about Interprofessional Continuing Education

In support of our strategic goal to advance data systems, the three founding members of Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education—the ACCME, Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)— launched the Joint Accreditation Program and Activity Reporting System (JA-PARS), enabling jointly accredited providers to report all of their program and activity data, including uni-professional and interprofessional continuing education (IPCE) activities, into a single, unified repository. Before 2018, jointly accredited providers reported data into multiple accreditors’ data systems. We can now see a more comprehensive picture of the scope of IPCE.

2020 ACCME Annual Report and Analysis - Statistics
  • Non-physician interactions at CME activities increased from $19.5 Million in 2019 to $27 million in 2020 – an increase of 37%
  • Total commercial support contributions decreased from $776 Million in 2019 to $722 Million in 2020, a decrease of approximately 7% from 2019 numbers. Three-year data shows since 2018, commercial support income is down by approximately 3%.

CME Value 2020

By John McCormick - September 17, 2020

CME Value 2020
Global is pleased to announce that we have updated CME Value Survey data for 2020. The 2020 survey is the latest update in Global's CME Value Survey series, where healthcare providers are surveyed and asked to identify the most valuable resources utilized when there is a need for medical education.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, CME has shown to be invaluable when needing to relay disease state and treatment updates. The updated 2020 survey includes additional questions about healthcare providers preference or willingness to attend live, in-person activities during the pandemic.

If you would like to see the updated data, please use the link and contact form to submit a presentation request. We look forward to hearing from you and sharing the latest results from the 2020 CME Value Survey.
