Global Takes the Plunge to Support Special Olympics Colorado
March 04, 2016
On Saturday February 27th, Global Education Group participated in The Polar Plunge Splash and Dash 5K for Special Olympics Colorado in Denver, Colorado. The Splash and Dash is held every year throughout cities in Colorado to support Special Olympics Colorado and the athletes who compete. The mission of Special Olympics Colorado is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
For the Splash and Dash Polar Plunge, groups of runners and plungers were encouraged to come up with team costume ideas around a "superhero" theme. Global's team was "Team Super Amari," in support of Global Program Manager Laura's stepson Amari and his bowling superpowers! Global staff members in attendance were Amanda Jamrogiewicz, Amanda Glazar, Laura Gilsdorf, John McCormick, David Mullins, as well as Amanda Jamrogiewicz's husband, Peter.[caption id="attachment_3701" align="aligncenter" width="960"]Team Super Amari: Amanda Glazar, Laura Gilsdorf, David Mullins, John McCormick, Peter and Amanda Jamrogiewicz[/caption]
The Dash
The first event of the day was a 5K road race through Denver's City Park. There were approximately 500 people running in the 5k- with many more people in attendance to cheer on the runners and later take part in the plunge. Global would like to congratulate all of our staff who participated, including John McCormick and Amanda Jamrogiewicz, who both earned medals for their finishing places and times. John was the overall winner of the 5K with a time of 19:43, while Amanda was 8th overall finisher and 3rd place female, finishing at 21:50. Congratulations to John, Amanda, and all of our runners on participating in and finishing the 5k! Check out more pictures of Team Super Amari at the 5K below.

The Plunge
Next up: The Polar Plunge! Teams and individuals who raised money for Special Olympics Colorado were invited to take the Plunge into a frigid pool setup at Denver Zoo. Thankfully the weather was a bit warmer than usual- but the cold temperatures still made the plunge a challenge! Laura, John, Amanda and Peter all participated in the Plunge and individually raised over $75 in donations each for Special Olympics Colorado. As a team Global, raised $660 in total donations to support Special Olympics Colorado, which was well above our set goal of $500.

Team Super Amari had a great day supporting Special Olympics Colorado, and we look forward to participating in future events with our favorite charitable organizations.
